How can I get an inexpensive quick update for my room?

If you feel confident in selecting color this can be the quickest way to give your room a great pick me up. Color can change your mood when you walk into the room. So which color do I need to consider? Here are some questions to ask yourself when considering color selection.
- What is the purpose of the room - bedroom, dining room, family room, children's playroom
- What is the main color in my upholstery - sofa, chairs, comforter on the bed
- What is the lighting in the room - many windows, few windows, morning light
- What "feel" am I looking for - calm, happy, exciting
- What furniture style do I have - modern, traditional, shabby chic
Feel overwhelmed with all the things to consider? Here's one example for a bedroom: currently the walls are white, the furniture is traditional cherry, the comforter is floral with the colors of pink, green, yellow and offwhite. The problem in this room now is the white walls. They are too stark for the contrast color of the furniture and the comforter looks like it doesn't quiet match. No need to change anything except the paint color -- $30 to $60 (approximate paint cost). Look at the comforter and consider one of the colors of the flowers or greenery. Greens are very relaxing which is great for a bedroom. Pale yellow makes you feel happy.
